The Technical Committee on Computer Communications (TCCC) of the IEEE Computer Society ran its annual Executive Committee meeting at Bonn, Germany, on October 6, 2011 in collocation with the 36th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN), its flagship conference.

While the work of the past had been presented by Execom Chairs, new ideas on areas of interest and emerging demand in the area of communications have been discussed, too. In that part of the meeting the SESERV Coordinator Burkhard Stiller presented the Coordination and Support Action SESERV and its socio-economic work. The discussion revealed a large interest on this interface between networks and services, on one hand, and on economic and societal usage questions, on the other hand.

Therefore, the TCCC Execom has decided to establish a new Execom Chair’s position on “Socio-economics in Networking”, which can be (a) filled with suitable candidates by now, (b) populated with respective ideas and project plans, and (c) represented in future TCCC-supported conferences/workshops with respective topics in related Call-for-Papers.
